Two year old communication

June 11, 2018

At 2 years old, your toddler should have anywhere from 75-225 words, can put 2-4 words together, repeats or attempts to repeat what they hear, points and names items in a picture and body parts, and can follow simple instructions. They will start to sing the ABC and/or different nursery rhymes they are familiar with.

I have listed the 25 words researchers state that every toddler should have by the age of 2 years old.

Many late-talkers are simply late bloomers and they will catch up over time. Although, a small vocabulary at the age of two could also be a sign of other problems such as a language disorder, autism, and dyslexia. If your toddler does not have 50 words by the age of 2 and is not beginning to put those words into simple 2 word phrases, it is worth getting your child evaluated. Early intervention is key!
